How is the Endo Q similar to that of a real root canal procedure when using an apex locator?

The Endo Q uses Apex Putty RL8 which is a proprietary material that was developed by Acadental which simulates the electrical properties of the periodontal ligament properties of the human jaw. The Q-Link®, when inserted in the Apex Putty, acts as a conductor. (The Q-Link® attaches to the lip clip of the apex locator.) Many apex locators on the market today measure the impedance of the canal to determine the working length and the Endo Q is an ideal tool to practice with an apex locator outside of the human patient.

I’ve heard that incorporating the Endo Q into our curriculum can actually save our school time and money – can you explain?

We have found that many endo classes have a difficult time integrating current endo techniques that are used by practicing dentists, particularly modern electronic equipment such as apex locators. By integrating the Endo Q in the curriculum, the class will have a standardized device that enables the instructor to teach the entire class one single technique rather than on an individualized basis. Conversely, by reducing x-rays, the direct costs of the class may reduced. In the long run, students will be more comfortable with various endo techniques resulting in increased productivity upon beginning the clinical lab.
